Serhei Rogers’s debut novel “L.A. Confidential,” which focuses on a young African-American woman forced to confront her past when her parents are killed during a protest, is set to be released on October 1.

While there are now numerous women’s rights groups organizing the book’s release, the publishing house that released the book, Harcourt Brace, says it has not been in contact with any other organizations that may try to make the release of “L.A. Confidential” a cause célèbre.

“We are a publishing house and we publish books of all types of books,” a Harcourt Brace spokesperson tells Yahoo Beauty. “However, we have not been in contact with any individuals or organizations that may seek to spread false information online, which may be harmful to our company and our writers.”

The controversial novel has sparked outrage since its publication last week, prompting an apology from the editor, the police department, and the publisher from the publishing house.

An editor’s note in the October 1 issue of Harper’s quotes the book’s author, Theodor Adorno, as saying that although the fictionalized “L.A. Confidential” story was “the greatest contribution to the art of the human intellect in the history of mankind,” there is one important difference between his writings and “actual facts”: “The fact that Adorno was an opponent of abortion is not what separates his work from ours.”

A Twitter campaign has gained traction to get “L.A. Confidential” banned across the Internet. However a petition calling for the book to be reissued, which gathered more than 1,000 signatures, has also been published on Change.org.

There is a new petition (see below for the full list) on Change.org, in which women of color, women of color writers—and particularly the black women who wrote “L.A. Confidential”—demand that the book be reprinted by Harcourt Brace, The Human Spirit Press (a division of Random House) and other book publishers.

Releasing “L.A. Confidential” as an anthology or paperback is an attempt to create a new cultural dialogue. It provides an opportunity to read the truth, to put it out there and educate people of all backgrounds who are living through the issues in their daily lives. As the petition notes:
